About Open Fairway Denver

Hi, I’m Malika, and I’m a 17-year-old junior golf coach with a passion for helping young people grow through the game of golf.
I’ve been coaching youth golf for the past three years and love creating an environment where kids can feel confident, supported, and excited to try something new. Whether I’m working with beginners or more experienced players, my goal is always the same: to make the game fun, accessible, and welcoming for everyone.

Growing up, I didn't come from a big golf family or belong to a country club, but my parents enrolled me in a local junior program at a municipal course, and that’s where I found my love for the game. From my years as a junior coach, I realize that golf can be an intimidating sport for kids from underrepresented backgrounds and that their parents might be reluctant to get their kids engaged in the sport. I was inspired to start this website because I wanted kids from all backgrounds and life experiences to feel included in playing golf. What matters most is showing up with curiosity and the willingness to learn. I believe golf has so many fundamentals that are great for kids to pick up, like patience, focus, and respect. These are skills that carry far beyond the course.

Outside of coaching, I’m a full-time student and a multi-sport athlete. I play varsity golf and swim, and I enjoy pushing myself both on the course and in the pool. I’m also committed to service and mentorship, helping kids feel seen and encouraged in a world that doesn’t always give them that space.

Golf has taught me a lot about patience, resilience, and personal growth. It has also introduced me to an amazing community that I’m proud to now contribute to as a junior coach. I know what it’s like to feel unsure when starting something new, so I always try to meet kids where they are with encouragement, empathy, and a little bit of fun.
